Insulation

Loft insulation

Loft insulation to warm the home, cut heat loss and reduce the cold surfaces that drive condensation and mould.

Why diagnosis matters

Treat the cause, then repair the damage

Heat lost through the roof leaves ceilings and upper rooms colder, which encourages condensation and mould. We top up or renew loft insulation to recognised depths, keeping ventilation paths clear so the roof space stays healthy.

Cold upstairs rooms and high heating bills
Little or no existing loft insulation
Condensation or mould on top-floor ceilings
Compressed or uneven old insulation

What we consider

Possible causes and lookalikes

01

Missing or thin insulation at ceiling level

02

Heat loss creating cold ceiling surfaces

03

Blocked eaves ventilation

04

Gaps and compression reducing performance

Inspection method

A clear work sequence

Step 1

Inspect the loft, existing insulation and ventilation

Step 2

Agree the depth and materials to be installed

Step 3

Lay or top up insulation, keeping eaves ventilation clear

Step 4

Advise on any related condensation or ventilation issues

Scope boundaries

Honest about what the work does—and does not—cover

We supply and install loft insulation and maintain ventilation paths in-house. Structural roof works, and any electrical alterations required in the loft, are referred to the appropriate trade.

Common questions

About loft insulation

How much loft insulation do I need?+

Current guidance recommends a substantial depth of insulation at ceiling level. We confirm the existing depth and top up to a suitable standard for your loft.

Can loft insulation cause condensation in the roof?+

If eaves ventilation is blocked, moisture can build up in the roof space. We keep ventilation paths clear so insulation does not create a new condensation problem.

Should I insulate if I have mould upstairs?+

Warmer ceilings help, but we assess ventilation and any leaks too. Insulation is part of the solution, not a guaranteed cure on its own.
